A Bachelor of Science degree is offered for the six programs under the auspices of Bible and Education. The six programs are: Generalist EC-6, Science 4-8, Social Studies 4-8; English, Language Arts, and Reading 4-8, Social Studies 8-12, and English, Language Arts, and Reading 8-12. They are designed to prepare students for classroom teaching and for obtaining state certification and/or further professional development.
The graduate who completes this program will:
1. Have skills in communicating the Word of God as it relates to the field of education.
2. Understand the unique place of the local church in education.
3. Demonstrate an awareness of the history of education, its cycles and the contributions of outstanding leaders in education.
4. Be familiar with present day trends and innovations in education.
5. Have ability to manage a classroom situation.
6. Be competent in the use of the tools of inquiry in the curriculum content areas of Early Childhood through 12th grade.
7. Acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes appropriate for Christian education.
8. Exercise the skills and methodologies basic to teaching.
9. Have some experience in classroom teaching.
10. Follow the example of Christ in love and compassion for children.
11. Minister enthusiastically to students.
1. Admission to the program is open to students who have completed the following
requirements:
a. A grade point average of 2.5
b. Any prerequisite work
c. Successful completion of the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) test prior
to enrolling for the second year.
2. Academic Foundation: the core curriculum general courses. (MAT 1312 , ENG 2301, 2302,
are required and sciences are designated. Delete PSY 1303, CM 1310, SPH 1301 and two
hours of physical education)
3. Academic Specialization: core curriculum Bible courses. Add 3 hours of Bible Elective
(3000 or 4000 level courses)
4. General Education (in addition to core curriculum): HIS 3305, 3306, 3301, 3302,
SCI 2306/2106, SCI 2307/2107, COS 3301, REA 3315, MAT 3312
5. Professional Development: EDU 3300, 3303, 3305, 3306, 3309, 3311, 4304, 4302, 4301,
4305, 4310, 4311, 4610, PSY 3302
6. No Music Requirement
7. No General Elective Hours
8. Minimum of 128 degree credit hours
9. Successful completion of 45 hours of observation (included with course work)
10. To continue in the Education Program students are expected to maintain the following standards:
a. A grade point average of 2.5
b. Character and conduct expected of a Christian teacher
c. Professional attitude.
11. Fulfillment of all requirements in the Christian Service Program
